What I made with Animoto is basically a collection of pictures describing what parts of America make me proud, along with a few things that the US can improve on. For example, the Saturn V is an amazing accomplishment, especially considering the technological limitations of the 60's. It boggles my mind that we managed to land several people on the moon and not lose a single life. I added pictures of nature, because the US is incredibly beautiful almost anywhere you look. I also used pictures that represent technology, Motorsport, and diversity. My personal belief is that there is no such thing as "un-American." As long as an individual agrees to live peacefully in our country, the beauty of freedom and ethnic diversity is that whatever anyone does as an American citizen is "American".
In contrast, I also added an image of "urban sprawl," which is not inherently bad, but often encroaches on valuable animal habitats. I also added a picture of Tyson Gay, the US record holder in the 100m and 3-time world champion, who was recently convicted of using performance enhancing drugs. I love track and field and Tyson Gay was one of my favorite athletes. It hurts to see him convicted, even if it may not have been his fault. I also used a picture of an atomic bomb blast to loosely symbolize the impact and importance of the US on the world. I used the song "For What its Worth" to reference my personal dissatisfaction with the government.
